3rd Annual On Guard 5K

Thanks to everyone who came out yesterday for the On Guard 5K. Honors graduate Julie Broderick (’14) founded the On Guard Initiative as part of her Commonwealth Honors Project. Tommy Jacobsen, Dr. Jay Mahoney, and the Enactus group did a wonderful job with the local arrangements.

Don’t miss the incredible speaker our department is co-sponsoring!  Spencer West lost his legs at the age of five, and climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro – on his hands – in 2012, to raise $750,000 for clean water projects in Kenya.

Worcester State has the distinguished honor to host him on campus next Tuesday, April 7th, at 3:00 PM in the Sullivan Auditorium.

Spencer West is an internationally recognized visionary, activist, and motivational speaker whose story has been featured on 60 Minutes, the Today Show, NPR, and in Time Magazine, Sports Illustrated, and a wide range of local, national, and global media. He has shared the stage with many Nobel Peace Prize winners and other renowned speakers such as the Dalai Lama, Jane Goodall, Elie Wiesel, Ellen Sirleaf Johnson, Martin Luther King III, and many more.

Spencer’s journey has been marked by obstacles and incredible triumph. Despite having both legs amputated at age 5, Spencer has accomplished incredible feats, including climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro –on his hands – in 2012 to raise over $750,000 for clean water projects in Kenya. He has worked with Free the Children, an international non-profit focused on children’s rights – and the world’s largest network of children helping children – for years, helping to promote their partnered community development projects in over 40 countries.
